It would seem that we already know everything there is to know about massage. But... are we sure? Today, we have decided to take a closer look at various claims about massage and check whether they are fact or fiction...

MYTH: Anyone can get a massage

Massage is so beneficial for so many different ailments that it is hard to believe there are any contraindications to its use. And yet, they do exist. The most important contraindications include: fever, skin diseases, acute inflammation, or cancer.

Practical tip: whenever you are unsure whether your health condition allows for a massage, you should seek medical advice. It certainly won't hurt.

FACT AND MYTH: A good massage hurts

It all depends on the type of massage. Relaxation massages, such as the Hawaiian Lomi Lomi, are pleasant and gentle, while Thai or sports massages could almost be considered torture. It also happens that soreness after a massage can persist for several days - this is a completely normal phenomenon.

MYTH: Men massage harder than women

The truth is that the devil is in the details. In this case, it lies in the technique, not physical strength. Otherwise, only powerfully built men could become massage therapists.

MYTH: Massages must be taken in series of 10 sessions

The question immediately arises: why exactly 10, and not 5 or 20? The number of massage sessions is an individual matter. Sometimes we feel relief after just the first massage; in other cases, many sessions are needed to get a patient back in shape. "10" is not a magic number that guarantees healing.

FACT: You should avoid physical exertion after a massage

Regardless of the type of massage performed, you should not push yourself afterward. Why? If you had a relaxation massage, it is worth trying to maintain that state of mind so that the effect of the treatment does not burst like a soap bubble. If, on the other hand, the massage was strictly rehabilitative, if you were being adjusted, or if the goal of the massage was to eliminate pain, etc., physical exertion can not only undo the effects of the massage but also cause an injury.

FACT AND MYTH: Massage is expensive

The price of a treatment depends on many factors: the type of massage, the location and type of facility where it is performed, the competence or popularity of the therapist, etc.

If you need a massage daily, it is worth considering purchasing a massager, as this is the most economical and convenient solution.

Example: a classic back massage costs about 120 PLN and usually lasts up to an hour.
A massage mat can be purchased for the price of 10 sessions, and it will serve not only us but also our loved ones for many years.

We hope that in this post we have managed to debunk all the myths about massage and that you now know which information is true and which can be dismissed as tall tales.
