What is acupressure?
To understand what this method involves, one must first understand how – according to Chinese medicine – the human body functions. It is considered a holistic entity: all organs work together, none functions alone, and all activity is based on life energy, known as qi.
Qi energy flows through our body via channels called meridians. Each meridian is responsible for the functioning of a specific organ in our body. If the flow of energy through any of the channels is irregular, the corresponding organ begins to fail. This is where acupressure comes in: its task is to unblock energy congestion. How? By pressing or stroking specific points located along the meridians. Acupressure identifies as many as 361 such points.
What an acupressure treatment looks like
Acupressure is usually an integral part of Chinese massage. A treatment performed in this way will not only soothe pain but also allow you to relax, unwind, rest, and release stress. It removes muscle tension and blockages and improves blood and lymph circulation.
Stimulating points assigned to specific organs improves their functioning. Therefore, acupressure can be used not only to alleviate existing ailments but also as part of preventative health care.
Depending on our ailment, the points responsible for the affected areas are pressed sequentially. Acupressure locates these points on the feet (foot acupressure), so these are most commonly massaged, but they are also found on the hands (hand acupressure) or ears.
The treatment usually lasts about half an hour, though the time can vary depending on the case. Pressure on a single point lasts from about half a minute to two minutes. The area is touched with the thumb or index finger, applied perpendicularly. The pressure is not very strong, but it can sometimes cause slight pain, which is a completely normal symptom.
Acupressure - to believe or not to believe?
Western medicine has always been skeptical of unconventional medicine, and therefore accepted acupressure with mistrust. Our European way of thinking did not, first and foremost, accept the theory regarding energy channels, as they do not coincide with nerve plexuses. However, after conducting research, doctors proved that during acupressure, the body produces endorphins, which alleviate pain.
Currently, acupressure is on the WHO list and treats asthma, allergies, migraines, digestive system diseases, and relieves pain. The greatest advantage of this method is that any of us can learn it. Acupressure does not require as much skill as its related practice, acupuncture (piercing specific points with needles).
And what does Casada have to say about it?
From the very beginning of our brand's existence, we have assumed that natural medicine is a treasury of knowledge that should be constantly explored.
When creating our devices, we rely not only on the latest technological achievements but also on the knowledge of the ancients. Notice that many of our foot massagers implement reflexology – that is, pressing the meridians. Canoo V, FootInn II, or, for example, the footrest of the Smart V massage chair. Hand acupressure is available in the armrests of massage chairs – specially contoured inserts for hand acupressure are featured in models such as Titan, Aura, or Skyliner II.
Unconventional methods will never replace the achievements of modern medicine, but they are safe, harmless, harmonize the work of our body, alleviate existing ailments, and can be an important element of daily health prevention. It is therefore worth getting a massager that will perform the acupressure treatment for us.
