A short history of massage for the uninitiated

We are experts in getting rid of pain, but we have also always been curious about how the history of massage has come full circle.

The perfect place to learn this history would, of course, be in one of our massage chairs. However, if you don't have that option, you can do it anywhere else!

Massage at home vs. an ancient ritual

Massages were performed as far back as ancient times. It is worth knowing that initially, they were linked to religious rituals and served as a supplement to them. It was only later that massage became a part of folk medicine. In a way, it remains so to this day. But let's start from the beginning!

India and China are the undisputed cradles of massage! It was there that massage began to be a valued element of medicine. From India and China, we move to ancient Greece, where athletes preparing for the Olympics eagerly made use of massage! The athletes' bodies were rubbed with oils and massaged to prepare them as best as possible for the competition.

What did Hippocrates write about massage? In his books, one can find massage techniques involving the rubbing of points on the body. Rubbing was supposed to alleviate many illnesses and was done in a completely different way than during religious rituals. Unlike the latter, Hippocrates recommended rubbing the legs and arms toward the center of the body.

In addition to Hippocrates, Celsus also contributed to the development of massage by adapting massage methods depending on the ailment. Therapeutic massage was also influenced by Galen, who developed the hand movements of the masseur!

Celsus recommended massage in the form of various types of rubbing depending on the illness, while Galen developed the hand movements when applying therapeutic massages.

And what happened next?

One might think that massage and individual techniques developed very quickly. Unfortunately, the Middle Ages in Europe turned everything upside down! However, it was a surprise that massages were still performed in monastery hospitals, and this is how the method survived the dark ages in Europe. In India, the development of massage continued.

The 16th century brought another scholar - Ambroise Paré, who used massage to provide relief to patients after surgeries. It was he who recognized massage as an official method of treatment!

A French doctor, Clement Joseph Tissot, took on the description of massage movements. Thanks to him, doctors could learn the movements for massaging and rubbing the body. However, we owe the greatest development of massage in Europe to the Swedish doctor Per Henrik Ling.

And don't worry! This is the last historical tidbit about massage. So what about massage in home conditions?

Why is a massage at home so pleasant?

We realize that this question is very leading. However, we cannot help but remind you that today, massage is not a whim or a doctor's invention. It is an excellent way to regenerate the body, and above all, we emphasize its therapeutic properties! Of course, it is worth going for a therapeutic massage to trusted physiotherapists, but equally good results can be achieved at home. Casada has quite a few options in its offer! What kind? For example:

Our idea for a massage at home!

Massage at home no longer surprises anyone. In the Casada offer, chairs and massagers (including handheld ones) are highly technologically advanced devices. Besides helping to get rid of pain, they improve the overall condition of the skin. If you do not have time to visit a physiotherapist's office, massage at home will be a supplement to your daily exercises.

Let's take a closer look at handheld massagers. Thanks to them, massage is possible practically in any conditions! Handheld massagers can be used by people who complain about neck, spine, and muscle pain. They can also be used after a workout and in the fight against muscle soreness.

The pros? There are plenty! Handheld massagers are created with the idea that you can take them wherever you want! Compact sizes allow you to use the massager at work, at home, and even during vacation trips!

Hop into a chair!

For true fans of a comfortable massage in the comfort of their home, chairs have been created that you won't want to get out of for even a moment! Why? Because they allow for truly deep relaxation and help get rid of pain in all sections of the spine!

Of course, chairs will not replace a visit to a physiotherapist, but they are an excellent supplement and a way to relax at any time of the day or night! Chairs feel really great in home conditions.

Massage chairs are available in various variants

You can choose from several massage programs. Among the techniques available are, for example:

  • shiatsu massage,
  • acupuncture point massage,
  • 2D and 3D massage.

If you are counting on a deep full-body massage at home, chairs will not let you down here either! Let's take a closer look, for example, at the Alphasonic II Braintronics which is one of the most technologically advanced Casada devices. The intense, therapeutic massage it performs is eerily reminiscent of the work of a masseur's hands. That is exactly why massage at home is no longer a problem today!

MASSAGE AT HOME AND THAT'S IT! If the chairs and handheld massagers have convinced you, we are adding another very pleasant element to this. These are:
